Kenneth Hoffman, the current leader of the Surfside Beach Police Department will be departing from the department in the upcoming month.
Mayor Rob Krouse announced Tuesday afternoon that Chief Kenneth Hofmann, who has been the town’s chief since 2017, has handed in his resignation letter.
Krouse informed the media that a statement regarding the resignation would be issued by council members and administration by the following day.
Hofmann stepped down from his position about a week after the council decided to look into a possible problem with retaining employees in the police department.
An interview with a former SBPD officer, was recently published. The former Surfside Beach Police Officer criticized Kenneth Hoffman and the department for problems such as inadequate training and a negative work atmosphere.
Kenneth Hoffman expressed his anticipation for the investigation as he believed it would help dispel any rumors and possibly address the significant factors that contribute to high turnover rates in police departments across the country, such as salary and benefits
Below is a letter to the residents of the town in which Hoffman mentions the harmful actions of a small group spreading rumors to discredit him, and accuses certain town officials of mishandling those rumors in order to damage his professional standing.
