According to a police report, a Conway man robbed a Myrtle Beach hotel with a metal spatula Aug. 26, injuring a person trying to fend him off with a bar stool.
Myrtle Beach police arrested Damian Vonta Sanders, 31, on charges of armed robbery and possession or making criminal implements. He remains at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Monday.
Sanders entered the Sea Dip Oceanfront Resort, 2608 N. Ocean Blvd., armed with a sharp object he believed to be a knife. The incident occurred about 5:45 a.m. Saturday.
According to the report, the defendant charged at the victim and assaulted him. The victim attempted to defend himself with a bar stool, but he suffered minor injuries to his head and face.
A metal spatula was used by the defendant to open the cash register and steal about $300, according to the report. The defendant was identified by the victim via security footage.
He remains in custody Monday at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges of armed robbery and possession of implements to be used in a crime.
The Sea Dip Resort in Myrtle Beach was built in 1953. It has been a popular destination for vacationers, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and a wide range of amenities for over 70 years. That area of Myrtle Beach is considered less dangerous than the South end. The city of Myrtle Beach is rated unsafe overall. A downtown murder occurred within days of this same incident.
That murder occurred on Carver Street which is located just west of the Sea Dip Resort downtown location.
