City Of Myrtle Beach Currently Facing 40 Lawsuits

The City of Myrtle Beach is currently facing 40 lawsuits pending in 2022. The lawsuits were largely filed in the 15th Circuit S.C.

Outstanding lawsuits in the Super Block make up a sizable list of those suits. Tommy Brittain of the Brittain Law Firm represents several of those litigants.

Several owners, who live in the city, are suing the city for negligence because of collapsing sewer and water systems in and around their living quarters.

CURRENT LAWSUITS PENDING

Ani Creation, which operates a series of T Shirt shops and vape shops inside the city, is suing the City of Myrtle Beach, as well as, Mayor Brenda Bethune, Councilmen: Mike Chestnut, Mike Lowder, Philip Render, Gregg Smith and Councilwomen: Mary Jeffcoat and Jackie Hatley individually.

James Brady is suing the city and the DRC for issues surrounding the closing of his business in the Superblock.

Henry and Virginia Brewington sued the city over those same Superblock issues and won. The City of Myrtle Beach is now appealing that decision.

Dr. Fred and Nan Norman are suing the city over collapsed sewer and water lines Fred fell through while riding his bicycle. Grand Strand Water and Sewer is also named as a defendant in that lawsuit.

The Myrtle Beach City Community Appearance Board is named as a co-defendant in one lawsuit.

John Pederson, former City Manager, is individually named as a co-defendant in another.

The Myrtle Beach Convention Center is named as a co-defendant in yet another. Lacks Beach service is named as a co-defendant as well in yet another city lawsuit.
