Seven Marion County Animal Shelter Volunteers say they walked out on February 14, 2022 as a result of ongoing poor treatment provided by the Shelter’s Executive Director, Barbara Lamb.

This morning a group of more than 12 peacefully protested on the grounds of the shelter.

In February 2021, Marion County hired Lamb. The below was published by the shelter on April 19th. She previously worked as Director of the Florence Area Humane Society. Lamb is a certified tech, but not a veterinarian. The volunteers informed us the shelter had no veterinarian on staff.

Welcome Barbara Lamb as the new director of The Marion County Animal Shelter. Barbara has been at the shelter a few months and comes to us with lots of experience and knowledge! She’s a certified vet tech, has a degree in exotic animal training and management, 6 years as the director at The Florence Area Humane Society and the last 19 years she was at Marion Animal Hospital.

Volunteers provided MyrtleBeachSC News with graphic video that alleges the Director’s son participates in Hog Dog Competitions.

A volunteer source who asked not to be identified stated, “Okay so we just found this! The (Marion County Animal Shelter Executive Director Barbara Lamb) E.D.’s son, James Lamb, is doing this and he even built one of these pens for fighting on his property which happens to be on Barb’s property!”

In the featured video, Bethany Watts says the group organized today to, “make changes in animal cruelty for the laws of Marion County and try to stop the unnecessary euthanization of shelter dogs before they have a chance to be adopted or rescued.”

Volunteer Lisa Star said, “There are lots of issues here, one being the director. She thinks she is a doctor. The animals do not have medical care. They hardly ever see the vet when there are problems.”

Star added, “We have problems with the facility itself. The horseshoe floods with its raining. It’s feces water and the puppies are standing in it. We are not allowed to move the puppies when that happens. We are told to stack up beds so they don’t drown.”

“Anderson Brothers Bank donated a new building to this facility six years ago so the animals can have a better place to live. The county has been saying it’s going to be started this year and that they have raised money. They are blowing smoke up everybody’s tail,” said Star.

We need medical care,” said Star, “not a vet tech that thinks she is a doctor.”

These volunteers say they plan to speak at a soon Marion County Council meeting. Readers can hear their entire comments in the featured video player above.
