City of Myrtle Beach records show that a national hotel chain plans to build an $8.4 million Myrtle Beach hotel.

According to city records, WoodSpring Suites will have 122 rooms and a 127-space parking lot along Sea Pine Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

Community Appearance Board members discussed the conceptual building permit application for the new hotel on Jan. 4, and the final review for the permit will take place at a future meeting.

The timeline of construction has not been revealed, and WoodSpring officials could not be reached for comment.

Myrtle Beach city leaders said they are looking forward to the project, however.

It just proves that commercial developers know Myrtle Beach is a great place to invest,” said City Councilman Gregg Smith.

An extended-stay lodging chain under Choice Hotels International, WoodSpring Suites has a hotel in Carolina Forest, but that location closed years ago.

According to its website, the company has hotels in seven other cities in South Carolina, including Charleston, Duncan, Elgin, Fort Mill, Greenville, North Charleston and Simpsonville.
