In a statement released to the press today, North Myrtle Beach S.C. State Representative William Bailey announced that he would explore running against Tom Rice for the 7th District U.S. Congressional seat.

Rice continues to take heat online and in the press for his vote to impeach former President Donald Trump.

The press release reads:

(North Myrtle Beach, SC)…South Carolina State Representative William Bailey announced today that he has begun the formation of an Exploratory Committee to assess a possible run for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 7th District.

“In times like these, we need a strong conservative voice in Washington to represent the people of the 7th District. It’s now obvious to everyone that we do not have that voice”, said Bailey.

Bailey was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2018 and re-elected in 2020. He currently is a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Interstate Cooperation Committee. He served as the Director of Public Safety for the City of North Myrtle Beach. He is married to his wife Karen Elizabeth and has two children, Anne Marie and Christopher.

Tom Rice currently represents the 7th District in Congress and was recently 1 of only 10 Republicans in Congress who voted to impeach President Donald Trump.

Bailey said he has gotten many calls about running for Congress and that the people he has spoken to are not only upset with Tom Rice, but they are also extremely angry and that many Republican activists have told him that Tom Rice has become a major disappointment to the Republican Party. He cited a group of Republicans who are calling for Rice to resign.

“With the socialist Democrats now in control of the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate we need someone who will stand up and fight for conservative values, not vote to impeach them,” said Bailey.

Bailey said that he’ll be meeting with individuals and groups in the days ahead to discuss building a strong grassroots organization as well as a fundraising team.
