Governor Henry McMaster suggested re-nominating Tony Cox to serve another term as a commissioner on the SCDOT. The measure was considered by the S.C. General Assembly today.

Representatives raised questions about the bio of the current highway commissioner. After heated discussion among representatives in the state, his nomination was then sent to the Education Committee for review.

This does not mean Cox will not be re-appointed. It does mean that there are questions about his candidacy.

Tony Cox was first named Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Commission at the Commission’s January 16, 2020, meeting in Columbia. He currently represents the 7th district.

Cox was appointed with a strong recommendation by former Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce C.E.O. Brad Dean. He was also recommended by the Grand Strand Business Alliance.

Cox serves on the board of the Grand Strand Business Alliance. This powerful group of Democrats hold great sway in all things Horry County politics.
