Porch Pirates are on the prowl in Horry County grinching the Holiday Spirit. Horry County police expect the Christmas looting to increase over the next 10 days.

Across America, over 260 million delivered packages have been stolen. Thieves tend to wear hoodies to avoid being recognized on camera installed doorbells.

Shawn Anthony, of Charlotte N.C., grew tired of the “next door” posts in his area about missing packages. So, he set up a fake package filled with cat litter.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PACKAGES THIS SEASON

Police recommend these tips to avoid having your packages stolen from your front porch:

  • Schedule your deliveries at a time when you know you will be at home or get the packages delivered to your job.
  • Develop good relationships with your neighbors. Let them know when an arrival is schedule so they can be on the lookout.
  • Install home security cameras.
  • Get to know your UPS and FEDEX Drivers. A Christmas card and gift card doesn’t hurt.
  • Give the driver(s) access to your garage code so they can place the packages directly in your garage.

Horry County residents in large neighborhoods, including Carolina Forest, Market Common, Longs, Grande Dunes, and along 707 in the TPC area are more prone to these porch pirates.
