Surfside Beach City Council Runoff Will Be April 17th
“Surfside Beach city residents, not big money, should decide our elections,” Tim Courtney.
The Surfside Beach Elections Commission announced today that a run off vote will happen for one city council seat on April 17th. Retired policeman and Surfside Beach family man Tim Courtney will face Debbie Scoles.
The election made headlines this past Easter Weekend when an unknown group, called “Surfside Strong”, dropped thousands of dollars in direct mail attacking Courtney in support of Scoles and two other candidates. Residents said the mailer was “over the top, mean spirited, and distasteful.” The mailer compared Courtney to Saddam Hussein because tax dollars paid for a stop sign at the end of Courtney’s street.
Courtney said he hopes the residents of Surfside Beach will send “Surfside Strong” a message with their vote this April 17th. “Surfside Beach votes are not for sale,” said Courtney.
Current City Councilman Tim Courtney told MyrtleBeachSC.com today, “This town is not for sale.”
